Wednesday, November 29, 2023 – The Reading Public Museum is thrilled to announce the replacement of an over 60-year-old electrical transformer to a new, state-of-the-art, and code compliant unit. The purchase was entirely financed at a cost in excess of $600,000 and made possible through the outstanding financial support of the Reading School District. The project was engineered and recently installed by the team at Pagoda Electrical, Inc.
With this support, the new transformer addresses the electrical needs of the entire campus, including the Museum, the Neag Planetarium, the Arboretum, and the Greenhouse, allowing us to continue serving our community as a dynamic center of lifelong learning and discovery for generations to come.
Dr. Anna Weitz, Board Chair of the Foundation for the Reading Public Museum stated, “We are deeply appreciative of the Reading School District’s generous funding of this important upgrade. This helps to ensure the bright future of the Museum, and all it has to enrich the lives of those in our diverse community.”
This upgrade and the support of the Reading School District is especially symbolic at this time of the year for our holiday display, “Yuletide Around the World,” seen throughout the Museum’s galleries as part of our annual celebration of cultures, traditions, and holidays. Sixteen displays representing Christmas, Chanukah and Chinese New Year are featured.
Current popular temporary exhibits include “Voyage to the Deep” (through January 7, 2024), “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: A Grr-ific Exhibit” (through January 14, 2024) and “Cartography in the Age of Enlightenment” (through December 31, 2023). In addition, several dome shows are being presented in the Neag Planetarium, as well as numerous, constantly evolving ongoing exhibits in art, science and history.
