REFLECTIONS:
Photographs by Jonathan L. Shalter, III
May
1,1999 through August 29, 1999
Noted
Berks County photographer Jonathan L. Shalter,
III presents his compelling works in his
first one-man show at the Reading Public
Museum in the central gallery on the first
floor. Reflections as the name suggests,
is a view not only of Shalter's award-winning
work in nature photography, but also a reflection
of Reading, Berks County and its past. The
same shutter that so explicitly captures
natures splendor, also gives a timeless
look at the Pomeroy's Whitner's and Astor
of old Reading.
Jonathan
L. Shalter, III is history. He is the type
of gentleman that you can sit and listen
to and learn of Berks County and its past.
There is a gleam in his 80-something year-old
eyes. He was fortunate enough to have had
a great childhood and isn't ashamed to admit
it hasn't ended. Reflections is a culmination
of a life's work that began over 70 years
ago. Shalter has been a nature enthusiast
since he brought home his first snake at
the age of 5, and a shutter bug since the
age of 15.
The
central gallery of the Museum has been reserved
for scince and nature exhibitions and displays.
