BUTTERFLIES
Return to the Museum

September 19, 1998 through January 3, 1999

butterflyAfter more than twenty years, 500 rare butterflies from the celebrated research collection of Museum founder, Dr. Levi Mengel, will once again be on view at the Museum. Butterflies will open on Saturday, September 19 and remain on exhibit through January 3, 1999 in the newly renovated Central Gallery. The Mengel collection, one of the rarest and most extensive in the world contains over 83,000 moths and butterflies, many of which are endangered or extinct. The exhibit was curated by Karl Gardner, president of the Levi Mengel Natural History Society. Special precautions have been taken to protect the fragile and beautiful specimens for this special viewing.
